Armed with Plutonium™ Paint, Jason Castro was cordially invited by London based contemporary artist Reza Aramesh to customize 5 plinths confronting assumptions of sex, violence, and culture for his most recent series – 12 Midnight – on view to the public in 5 clubs throughout New York City (Bossa Nova, No.8, Santos Party House, Marquee, and Sugarland). May 8 – June 5, 2013.

“..for Aramesh the plinth is likewise a bearer not just of weight, but also of meaning, both aesthetic and iconographic.”
- Dr. Geraldine A. Johnson, Professor of Art History at Oxford University.

Forced to view the 360 degree works through peep holes, Castros plinths support the ambiguity of the sculptures they conjoin, questioning sentiments of power during this starkly vast turning point in human history. Fighting back with a full can of Plutonium™ Paint, Castro quickly pulls these pillars of hope up from the rubble, redefining the peepshow for an internet age.

A collaborative pop up art show that raised proceeds for Hurricane Sandy Relief. Using cans donated by Plutonium™ Paint, The Drift Project artists created original installations on surfboards, skate-decks and even the walls of Drift Surf Shop. These installations sold as part of a silent auction and raffle that generated proceeds for the Clean Water Couriers, Waves 4 Water.

(Waves 4 Water provides clean water solutions worldwide through ongoing Projects and their volunteer program, CLEAN WATER COURIERS. Visit wavesforwater.org and start your own fundraiser).

A special thanks to Rob Jones of Drift Surf Shop for opening the doors of your store to the project and making it happen.

After winning a Facebook ‘Like’ Contest sponsored by Amanda Harris Gallery of Contemporary Art (Las Vegas, NV), street artist Mowgli makes his gallery debut during February First Friday. The one-day show will feature murals and his portraiture. A collaborative wall will include artists Dead Girls and Robots, jesusismycurseword, mfntimebomb, Drips18, Chi, and the Vegas legend Juan Muniz. The food trucks Dragon Grille and Joe2Go will be in attendance with DJ Taylor C spinning on site to support the show. Cocktails will be available through Lady Silvia for those 21 and over. Also, F2esh Clothing Company and The Downtown Hanger Project will also be present to support the event. There will be giveaways throughout the night from F2esh Clothing Company, 9th Life Clothing, and Mrs. Rocket Tattoo.

Mowgli takes inspiration from pop culture, other artists, girls he’s dated and his father’s disapproval. “Realistically, I would love to call the show ‘sh*t I like’ because of the straightforward nature of my art,” says Mowgli. “Most of the commissioned pieces reference my pop culture interests.” The actual name, “Spray Paint and Whiskey,” is a play on this idea.

He believes art is for everyone and takes an active interest in making his art affordable to the masses. “Art should not depend on your socioeconomic status,” Mowgli says. His aspirations include giving back to the community to stay true to his artistic intentions. A portion of the proceeds generated from gallery sales and any flat donations will be given to support the Special Olympics of Nevada.

Spray Paint and Whiskey“, sponsored by Plutonium™ Paint and sponsored in part with Odessa Magazine will be held at 900 S. Las Vegas Blvd. #150 Las Vegas 89101 – inside Soho Lofts, next to the Lady Silvia Friday, February 1st from 6-10 pm. For more information on the show, contact Amanda Harris Gallery at 702-769-6036 . We teamed up with Leo Hayes High School (New Brunswick, Canada) Fall 2012 Semester for a
3-Layer Stencil Workshop Class for 12th Graders. The curricular content of the class focuses on the art making skills of working with stencils and various techniques associated with spray paint. Students created graphic artwork on the general theme of Multiculturalism. The resulting artworks, made with professional materials by a small group of senior students are currently on display around the school.

“What does multiculturalism mean to teens? With spray paint provided by Plutonium™ Paint company of Detroit, and canvas courtesy of the office, my class has explored themes of multiculturalism, plurality, differences and acceptance in this series of large, colorful artworks. We spent two weeks using what was, for most of us, a new medium. Students completed two independent images using stencils and Plutonium™ Paint, before embarking on large works using the theme of Multiculturalism. From the literal to the poetic, the obvious to the obscure, these artworks represent creative thinking and sophisticated artistic skills. Thanks to our sponsors, and most of all to my students, for their hard work and willingness to try something completely new.”

Join us in Denver this coming Saturday, October 6th for AIGA Colorado’s Bordo Bello, an interactive event which celebrates and breathes life into Denver’s art community. Plutonium™ Paint is pleased to join Bordo Bello in its fifth year, by sponsoring public grip tape painting at the event. Attendees of the public grip tape painting session will be able to customize grip tape with a slew of professional artists. We’ve been told that this portion of the event sells out every year, so you may want to make arrangements to get in on it early! It is also rumored that AIGA may create decks with the grip tape artwork for display at their National Gallery in New York City.

This event is not to be missed! Bordo Bello has become one of Colorado’s premier artist events that attracts artists from all over and encourages them to unite for a common good. Bordo Bello’s funds go to AIGA Colorado’s mentorship opportunities, which include VSA Colorado/Access Gallery, Robert Taylor AIGA Colorado Scholarship fund, to name a few.

Please visit http://www.bordobello.com for more information.

Don’t worry if you won’t be able to make it to Denver, we’ll have plenty of photos for you.
